Robert E. Bowers

Chief Financial Officer

Robert E. (Bobby) Bowers has served Piedmont Office Realty Trust (Piedmont) as Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President, and Secretary since elected by the Board of Directors in April 2007. A 30-year veteran of the financial services industry, Mr. Bowers broad range of experience includes investor relations, debt and capital infusion, IPO structuring, budgeting and forecasting, financial management, and strategic planning. 

Mr. Bowers most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Wells Real Estate Funds, Inc. and as a Senior Vice President of Wells Capital. Prior to joining Wells in 2004, Bowers served as a business financial consultant, interfacing regularly with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and providing strategic financial counsel to a range of organizations including venture capital funds, and public corporations.

Mr. Bowers was a member of the board of directors and CFO of NetBank, Inc., the first profitable Internet bank, from 1997 until the time the bank was acquired in 2002.  From 1984 to 1996, Mr. Bowers was CFO of CheckFree Corporation (and its predecessor company, Stockholder Systems, Inc.) a Norcross, Georgia-based financial applications company that pioneered the electronic bill payment industry.  Bowers began his career in 1978 as an audit manager for Arthur Andersen & Company in Atlanta.

Mr. Bowers earned a B.S. in Accounting from Auburn University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.
